3D docu on fishermen

To shoot that 3D docu I needed very slim HD cameras. That way we could combine high resolution image with small stereo base, allowing me to get closer to the objects. The production company Pinkau Entertainment ordered two Sony cameras for that purpose.
Especially for docu you cannot adjust cameras all the time, but rather have to be ready and on standby.
Director Sebastian Lindemann had his first time experience with 3D and quickly adopted the working style.
Here is some footage to be seen (in german only)

fisher in the Baltic sea - 3D documentation

Documentary film on a stricken fisherman boat and german SAR (search and rescue).

This is one of the first stereoscopic 3D documentary films ever made in Germany.
At a time when there were no handy 3D rigs available I had to find another solution to bring the two cameras as closer together as possible.

Only that way I was able to get close to my protagonists and to film in a flexible documentary way.

For the wide and planned shots I used some bigger cameras, but for the handheld close shots I had a pair of Sonys FullHD TG3 fastened on a special 3D handheld rig.

The stereo base of about 65mm (what we know as interpupillary distance or common eye distance) was just perfect for my needs.
